    Great product for the money

I previously reviewed these rings, and wanted to give an update. With my previous set, I sanded the bottoms to match the carve of the top of my Gibson Les Paul Traditional, and while this is the "correct" way to install them it just didn't look right. So, I bought another set to see whether or not I could just screw them down as is - and it worked perfectly and now these new rings look awesome!! As long as you are slow and careful (only do a few turns at a time on each screw, and work from opposing corners) these rings don't bow out or crack, they'll conform nicely to the curved top of a Les Paul. I highly recommend these!

    Tall rings for Gibson guitars

Posted by Robzilla on Jan 6, 2020

I was looking for taller/Historic rings for my Gibson Les Paul Traditional, partly for the look, but mainly because I have uncovered humbuckers and I wanted taller rings to better protect them. These fit the bill perfectly. I don't know if they're the same dimensions as Gibson Historic mounting rings, but these are definitely taller than regular Gibson USA rings. Epiphone plastics have different dimensions, so these are definitely made to fit Gibsons, and they were an exact fit on mine. The one issue I had is that I've heard that Historics/Reissues are flatter where the pickups sit, but my Traditional is pretty curved, so I had to sand the long edges of the rings (the bridge ring, in particular, because it's much thicker) to ensure that it would fit the carve of the top. It changes the look a bit, but it functions perfectly, and I shouldn't have to worry about the plastic deforming or breaking from being bent under pressure. The color of these (MR-FRI) was a decent match for my Gibson USA Les Paul Traditional; I also ordered the light cream rings (MR-FRLI) for color comparison, and they're much lighter - probably a good color match for Historics/Reissues, but too light when compared to the binding on my Traditional.
