These are pre-shaped and slotted bone nuts with most of the work done for you.  These still require final shaping and deepening of slots and are not a drop-in replacement.  A proper setup is still required for the nut to perform at its optimum potential.

    Fender jazz bass nut

Posted by Guy Vogel on Jul 3, 2025

Purchased several bass guitar nuts from Philadelphia Luthier for a Fender jazz that were pre-notched for each of the four strings. Each notch (especially for the G and E strings) was mis-aligned resulting in an improper layout of the E and G strings riding much to close along the edge of the fret board. After reporting this back to the vendor we were informed that not all Fender jazz bass guitar nuts are equal regarding the string notch layout - which if true is the responsibility of the manufacturer, distributor and vendor to make publicly known and to verify which year and model Fender jazz bass is fitting for each bass guitar nut being advertised and released to the buyer by Philadelphia Luthier. Fortunately we very carefully examined the new Fender jazz bass nut to what was originally installed by Fender. Had we done the opposite the result would have been very troubling. Guy Vogel

    Geat preshaped nuts

Posted by John on Apr 12, 2025

These pre shaped nuts save a ton of time and are shaped perfectly as a starting point. One thing I want to mention, these don't seem to be natural bone, when sanding they don't stink like traditional cow bone. maybe synthetic ivory? I'm not sure, but that's not a knock against the material. The material sands and files like a dream and polishes beatifically. I will never go back to traditional bone.

    Great replacement

This was the first time I've ever changed a nut. I have an Epi SG so I had to sand a little but, It easily fit in. I would highly recomend. Sooooo much cheaper than Stew Mac.

    Bone Guitar Nut

Posted by Shawn Gary on May 11, 2022

I’ve purchased several pre-shaped and slotted bone guitar nuts from Philadelphia Luthier Tools and Supplies. The bone nuts they sell are some of the very best I’ve ever used. They sound great, look great, are easy to work with, and are very affordable. Replacing a stock plastic nut with a bone nut is one of the quickest ways to improve your guitar’s sound.

    Love bone nuts

Bone is best. Used on most custom shop builds. Plenty slippery for tremolo sytems.
