  • Aluminum Tailpiece
  • Made in the USA - not a Genuine Gibson® part
  • Lightweight vintage design - weight is about 1.2 oz.
  • Plated aluminum alloy
  • Does not include mounting studs or bushings
  • Tailpiece ear thickness is .290"(7.4mm)

These are made to fit USA Gibson® guitars and might not fit all imports guitars.  example - most Gibson guitars have 5/16"(8mm) clearance on the studs.  PLEASE CHECK BEFORE ORDERING!

The aluminum tailpieces weight 1/4 that of the zinc and produce a much different sound. They transfer vibrations differently,  resulting in a woodier, more airy vintage tone -  richer, rounder mids but with more upper harmonics as well. Back in the '50s, Gibson® used aluminum for their stop bar tailpieces. For whatever reason, they switched to zinc, which is still used today on all but the historic line.

    Super lightweight!

There is a massive weight difference between this and the OEM tailpiece on Gibson USA guitars (not talking about HIstoric Reissues). This is also just slightly smaller (narrower and not as tall) as the OEM part, but the ears for the studs are the correct measurement so it fits perfectly on a Gibson, and unless you see them side-by-side you won't notice the size difference at all. I can't speak to any tonal changes because I also changed my bridge and electronics at the same time.

    Simply Amazing!

I had read numerous reviews about the benefits of installing an aluminum tailpiece to your guitar. After looking at various vendors I came upon the offering from Philadelphia Luther. The price was significantly less that others and I figured I'd give it a try. I'm so glad I did! I purchased this for my 2007 Gibson Les Paul Standard and I immediately noticed a tonal difference. Not to mention the weight was like night and day compared to the zinc one factory installed. I'm sure the other vendors' tailpiece are just as good but the price to value ratio on the one from Philadelphia Luther is out of this world. Don't wait...order one now and hear the choir of angels come out of your axe!

US made aluminum TP for Gibson

Posted by Rooster on Feb 27, 2019

I purchased two of these and found them to improve the treble in my two LPs. (Maybe another was to say this is that they changed the character of the midrange of either guitar?) Anyway, recently I purchased a 2018 Gibson LP(SG)Jr. and found that it's TP is stamped 'Allied Plating US' and - although I thought that both TPs were the same 'Gibson Historic' TP, one branded and one not - I realize they are not the same piece. The one that is marked 'Allied Plating' is a bit heavier than the one I purchased from PL. I can also see that the 'hump' of the Allied TP is higher than on the PL piece. So call me confused, but there must be two manufacturers of Gibson style aluminum TPs in the US? I'm not unhappy, just confused and would still suggest trying this unbranded TP.
