Such a great product, works great with PAF style pickups. Already have it in 2 guitars. Very usable tonal range.
Other reviewers have commented on the tone of this capacitor. I'm not certain, but I think it's highly improbable that the capacitor type in a guitar tone circuit affects tone. The higher frequencies that bleed to ground go through the capacitor. The micro-farad value sets the point at which frequencies begin to be bled to ground. You don't hear what is bled to ground, so I'm not sure how it could "affect tone". Logic aside, they LOOK super cool. They're easy to solder. The values are easy to read. I put one of these in a Les Paul Jr DC build with one Lollar P90. One volume, one tone. 500k pots. It works fantastic in that setup. The tone control rolled all the way down is warm but not completely undefined. It creates a very usable range in the circuit.
Everyone wants to know what you hear different about this capacitor type. I have compared it to others - in my opinion it is maybe slightly more transparent sounding than an orange drop, but not as brittle sounding as mylar or ceramic. But man are we spitting hairs because it totally depends on everything else in you rig and even then the diff may be in the imagination. You can't go wrong tryin" one.
Sounds great. Works well throughout entire range of pot. Great for the money
The "Black Bee" 0.022 uF paper in oil (PIO) capacitor from Allparts is a nice upgrade from standard "gumdrop" or ceramic capacitors common in many stock guitars. Paired with good pots, the Black Bee has a warm, vintage tone for a reasonable price. Likewise, it's a bit smaller in length (ca. 19 mm) than many other PIOs and fits nicely in tight control cavities. I highly recommend this capacitor for price and fit.
