The aluminum tailpieces weigh 1/4 that of the zinc and produce a much different sound. They transfer vibrations differently,  resulting in a woodier, more airy vintage tone -  richer, rounder mids but with more upper harmonics as well.  Back in the '50s, Gibson used aluminum for their stop bar tailpieces. For whatever reason, they switched to zinc, which is still used today on all but the historic line.

    2. Brighten up a solid mahogany body guitar. 5 Star Review

I now have 3 tailpieces and I like this one best. I think they used these many years ago to brighten the dark tone of solid mahogany guitars and this does help with the combination of .015 cap on the tone pots. The stock zinc one was dead sounding and the brass mellow and deep bass tone. This aluminum one is very light and the guitar has more punch in the mid and upper range along with harmonics and sustain.
